Climate Hub

Climate Hub

ideanco., a leading innovator in sustainable solutions, and the UN Global Compact Network Lebanon (UNGCNL), part of the  United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), an international organization focused on responsible business practices, have formed a strategic partnership to establish the CLIMATE HUB in the EMEA region. This collaborative initiative aims to create future jobs in sustainability and address the pressing issue of climate change within the EMEA region, focusing on empowering local youth.

Program

The CLIMATE HUB Program, a collaborative effort between Ideanco and UNGC, aims to engage both local and global youth in addressing pressing sustainability issues, creating 100,000+ jobs in the EMEA region, and accelerating progress towards meeting the 2030 Agenda.

By focusing on the four zones of Sustainable Mobility, Sustainable Manufacturing, Sustainable Food Security, and Green Development, the program will boost youth employment opportunities in a sustainable economy, providing them with the tools and knowledge required to make a real impact.

The CLIMATE HUB Program’s collaborative effort between Ideanco’s SDG Make Lab and UNGCNL SDG BrainLab has a unique approach by leveraging Ideanco’s crowdsourcing business model, empowers youth to take ownership of their futures and contribute to a sustainable economy.

Zones

CLIMATE HUB has identified four key focus areas aimed at engaging youth to address the world’s most critical sustainability challenges and foster the development of a sustainable circular economy ecosystem. These focus areas include Sustainable Mobility, Sustainable Manufacturing, Sustainable Food Security, and Green Development.

Sustainable Mobility

It emphasizes the need for innovative and eco-friendly transportation solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promote energy efficiency, and minimize environmental impact.

Sustainable Manufacturing

This focus area addresses the necessity of adopting environmentally responsible manufacturing practices that minimize waste, reduce pollution, and preserve natural resources.

Sustainable Food Security

The zone recognizes the vital importance of ensuring global food security while reducing the environmental impact of agricultural practices.

Green Development

It encompasses the need for sustainable urban planning, construction, and infrastructure development to create livable, resilient, and low-impact communities.

Tracks

Tracks of the CLIMATE HUB Program across all four zones focuses on addressing the youth and green jobs deficit by implementing a comprehensive approach through its “three primary tracks”: Employment and Entrepreneurship, Environmental Education, and Empowerment and Youth Partnerships. These tracks are integral to the SDG Brain Lab and SDG Make Lab, working together to facilitate the transition to a low-carbon, circular, and nature-positive economy.

Employment and Entrepreneurship

This track emphasizes the creation of sustainable job opportunities and fostering an entrepreneurial mindset among youth. The SDG Brain Lab nurtures creative thinking and problem-solving skills, while the SDG Make Lab supports the development of viable solutions and startups. This approach helps close the green skills gap and drives economic growth in sectors that are both vulnerable to climate change and crucial to building a sustainable future.

Environmental Education

To ensure long-lasting impact, the CLIMATE HUB Program prioritizes equipping participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to address sustainability challenges effectively. The Environmental Education track integrates SDGs and the four focus zones into the curriculum, providing participants with a solid foundation for understanding the complexities of climate change and the measures needed to tackle it. This educational component enables youth to make informed decisions, develop innovative solutions, and contribute meaningfully to global climate action.

Empowerment and Youth Partnerships

Recognizing the importance of collaboration, the CLIMATE HUB Program emphasizes youth empowerment and the formation of partnerships. The program fosters a supportive network that encourages youth to become active agents of change by engaging with member states, employers, workers’ organizations, and educators. This collaborative approach promotes systemic change that benefits people, the planet, and prosperity, ensuring the program’s impact extends beyond its participants.

Global Progress

While significant strides have been made in renewable energy adoption and climate communication, other areas like climate adaptation, carbon capture, and waste reduction have lagged. Gaps in climate literacy and comprehensive policy implementation persist. These estimates serve as a rough approximation, and more recent data should be used to evaluate current progress. Further action and collaboration are crucial to tackle climate change effectively.

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

The Sustainable Development Goals are a call for action by all countries – poor, rich and middle-income – to promote prosperity while protecting the planet. They recognize that ending poverty must go hand-in-hand with strategies that build economic growth and address a range of social needs including education, health, social protection, and job opportunities, while tackling climate change and environmental protection.
